What is Screenshot This?

It’s a list of things I love right now - what to look, read, watch, listen, buy, and explore. It started off on my Instagram, and I have just taken it to Substack so I can better link to what I’m talking about.

I started it because I am that friend who texts you when I read something that I think might make you laugh, takes a photo of her favourite laksa paste to send to you or DMs you when I find that dress you’ve been wanting (or not realised you’ve been wanting) on sale.

Oh, and who am I?

You might know me from Instagram, or through my professional career. You can read more about me at The Design Files, Bed Threads and Fashion Journal.

What is the difference between the free and the paid version?

I believe in sharing suggestions so while plenty will be free, one email per month minimum will be for paid subscribers only.

I’ll only send through what I really think are the best and most interesting things to look, read, watch, listen, buy, and explore on the internet at the moment and the paid option allows me to keep it that way. If you do sign up – thank you for valuing the work – enjoyable work! – that I put into this newsletter.

What do I get as a founding member?

Not to be all like “in response to all your DMs…” but, also, I get a lot of specific questions about style, shopping, fashion, or more. I’m not able to get to them and to spend the time. As a founding member, I’ll do one thoughtful curation of your choice — a reading list, some wardrobe suggestions — or answer some specific style advice. You choose! It’s a pretty big deal being a founding member so I can be flexible, within reason of course.

How can I see past newsletters?

Only paid subscribers will have access to the full archive.

Media coverage

“My chief pop culture joy of 2022 has been rediscovering email newsletters... My favourites, quite unimaginatively, are fashion-related. In Australia, former Vogue writer Zara Wong's Screenshot This is an obsessively curated list of reads and shopping suggestions (Street Talk's Sarah Thompson tells me she buys something at least once a week based on Wong's recommendations. It's such a lovely escape into Wong's very clever and stylish mind.” — Lauren Sams for the Australian Financial Review, Dec 28 2022.

“Zara Wong is one of the most accomplished people in Australia’s fashion and beauty media industry.” — Amelia Barnes for The Design Files

“A surefire crowd favourite on social media, Zara also reports on all things worth browsing, reading, cooking and listening to via her new Substack, Screenshot This.” — Jerico Contemporary gallery

“I’d been following Zara Wong on Instagram for a while before she launched her Substack, Screenshot This, about a year ago, which I love… When I decided to do WintourRama Zara was the first person I thought of—high caliber local talent with an international vision.” — Bri Lee for her Substack, News and Reviews

“I followZara Wong’s Substack for a mélange of pop culture / fashion” — interview with Monique Foy, founder of Cosmic Dealer

And some testimonials from readers and alike:

“I’m an avid reader of Zara’s Screenshot This newsletter and love it. It’s her honest and intelligent commentary and her knack for finding the perfect edit of pieces that does it for me. What I didn’t expect was a significant number of new followers and an uplift in sales for my business, RECIETY when she featured it discussing designer vintage in her January newsletter. It shows the trust Zara’s audience has in her and her power of conversion. Can’t wait for more great content from Screenshot This.” — Jessica Steuart-Hoyler from RECIETY

“Love your newsletter, Zara! Just bought the leopard trench (BARGAIN), so props on your excelllllllent influencing.”

“Zara this is the only newsletter where I click on every link! Love it.”

“I love love love your screenshot this. It’s always full of really interesting things I would never stumble across so thank you for brightening my week.”

“It’s so good! Thank you!”

“Stop making me buy things. This is the second week in a row I’ve shopped from this newsletter.”

“I almost always put down what I’m doing when I get the email notification and find a corner to read it. It’s seriously good and I read most of the links and appreciate your insights into writing, culture, books reviews and so much more. Plus love that you’re a fashion nerd.”
