I worked in beauty. Here's my favourite makeup products, pt 1
Starting off with foundation, concealers, primers and setting powders.
The first weekend after I started working at MECCA, I went into my then-local store in Carlton, Melbourne, and asked what were THE makeup products I needed. What were the bestsellers, and what would actually work for me.
And that’s the thing about beauty products; what sells really well might actually well, not work so well on you. There’s a foundation that whenever I put on I don’t really seeeee any difference (which is probably the point) and the texture is something that online reviewers and other people have complained about, but guaranteed, I will ALWAYS get asked about my skin whenever I’m wearing it.
This is what works for me and how I prefer to wear makeup: more on the subtle side. My idea of ‘heavy makeup’ might be what most people might consider ‘normal makeup’. I don’t WANT to look like I’m wearing makeup. I’m okay with seeing skin texture!
I’ve also included how I use the product, too, because I find the actual application and usage to really be a gamechanger on how it looks.
I’m making this a multi-part series, with this one specifically on complexion. Complexion as a category to be honest is difficult to market because it’s um, just more visually boring and ‘beige’ (pun intended) than say, eye colour products, blushes or highlighters. But, foundations are a foundational (ha) part of makeup and one of the most FAQ I am asked about makeup.
I have included where applicable images of where I’m wearing the product!
